Small Wheels
Small Wheels
Small wheels for Small wheel holders
Material: Turned, Ground, and Polished 1045 steel
Bearing Diameter: 7/8”
Overall Width: 3-1/8”
CRITICAL: You should use J weight belts on wheels smaller than 3/4” because X weight backers are too stiff to bend that tightly. Also, small wheels must be run slower than larger wheels because they have to spin faster to keep up with the belt. See chart below for recommended belt speeds. You should not run any small wheels smaller than 1” on a single speed machine using a 4” drive wheel and you should not use any small wheels smaller than 2” on a single speed machine using a 7” drive wheel.
Safe Belt Speeds for Various Small Wheel Sizes [feet per minute (fpm)]
The image below shows the cross section of a blade with a fuller on each side. The circle represents a wheel used to grind the fullers. The chart lists various fuller height dimensions that can be achieved with different wheel sizes at varying depths. The way we recommend using the chart is to start with how deep you want to go based on how thick your blade is. Find that depth in the green column, then go across from left to right in the row corresponding to that depth until you find a height dimension you like, then go straight up from that height to the blue row to see what wheel size would give you those fuller dimensions.
